Expectations (Sept/Oct)

What behavior choices are expected from Highland Park Owls?

  • Kinder = We will focus on how to be a good kindergarten student by following rules and being polite.

  • 1st = Kindness is Cooler. Students will be challenged to practice small acts of kindness everyday.

  • 2nd = What does a 2nd grader think, feel, and do? Students will learn about normal ways of expressing their feelings, thoughts, and emotions.

  • 3rd = Students will be encouraged to take responsibility for their own behavior and begin to take steps of ownership in their education and daily activities.

  • 4th = Self-reflection will help students look at themselves and their choices honestly while looking for ways to be their best selves.

  • 5th = As the oldest students at Highland Park, 5th graders will focus on being positive role models for younger students.

Parent Support

Discuss your expectations for behavior at home by reviewing behavior rules at home and in the community. Give your students at least one daily chore that they are responsible for taking care of at home. Point out examples of people who do not follow expectations (rude behavior, breaking driving rules, mean to others, etc.). Celebrate people who are kind, polite, and helpful to others.

FAMILY FUN - Have a family game night. Choose a board game that uses rules to drive game play like Chutes and Ladders or Monopoly.
